Punk'd
You know how the best part of New Year's Eve is the count down to fireworks? Just like it's the best part of Disneyland, independence day, Guy Fawkes Day (for my British audience), and Pioneer Day (for the Utah readers). This is so obviously true I don't even know why I brought it up at lunch with my lovely, intelligent friends Harish and Marissa.
And they had no idea what I was talking about.
The only logical explanation I have thought of is they were playing a hilarious prank on gullible Aimee. But they just seemed so... oblivious? ignorant? I don't even know what. It seemed like they really didn't know about New Year's Eve fireworks. I even began to doubt it myself until a quick google video search for "new years 2009 fireworks" yielded over 6000 pieces of evidence supporting my sanity.
Whether you celebrate with fireworks or not, happy 2009.

New Slang
Sorry dudes, I pulled a 'weezer' by going on an unannounced hiatus and then returning unexpectedly with lots of new content that reminds you why you liked them in the first place.
Today was my second day as a Reading to Kids volunteer in LA. This time, my group was fourth graders. Edwin, Carlos, Lucilda, and Heaven. The first three kids are Hispanic, and Heaven is black. While we were waiting to go into the classroom, chatting with the kids, Heaven says "We finally have a black president."
I don't care if you think Obama we lead us to a "more perfect union" or if you think he is a socialist inexperienced disaster waiting to happen. For Heaven to be able to see someone with her skin color leading this country is a great thing.

I love LA
No more plastic bags!
Now maybe I won't look like such a hippie when I ride my bike to Trader Joe's and carry my food home in canvas bags.

Taiwanna-be
I returned from my journey around Taiwan a half-day ago.
For someone who spends a large fraction of her time and mental capacity thinking about the earth, I still can't wrap my head around the fact that we live on a beautiful giant marble, and I was on the other side of it for two weeks.

P.S. I learned this dance at KTV.
