ladies

Do you have days when you want to be an ass-kicking over-educated Nature-paper-publishing scientist (or other "non-traditional" field) beast, and others when you just want to bake cupcakes and squeeze babies and shop at anthropologie?  Here is some reading material and food for thought for the ladies:

I Choose My Choice! by Sandra Tsing Loh.  An awesome article about the fruits of the feminist revolution.  (She's my girl and fellow Caltech alumna with a diploma made entirely of partial credit.)

I just discovered the "show details" button on my google reader, and I decided to put together a comprehensive (I honestly did not realize I followed so many blogs!), quasi-scientific (it kind of looks like a histogram if you tilt your head a bit) profile of the blogs I subscribe to and enjoy.  

ones: my friends (Ashli, Brittany, Cindy, and Marie), my blog (5 subscribers!)
tens: Cantabrigia, Cycling Silk, Formaggio's Cheese Blog, Old Tom Foolery, second coat design, The Academic Vagrant (also my friend, but with 13 followers!)

(I don't read any blog with a million followers.  It took a few minutes to find such a thing - the closest I've come up with is The New York Times.  Does that count?)

I like that my google reader reflects the characteristics I value and activities I love - food, style, friends and family, design, bikes, crafts, intelligence, and humor.  And I didn't expectt SK to be the most popular, but it makes sense: yummy food, beautiful photography, personal anecdotes, humor, and original content.  If I had to give up all blogs except for one, I would keep SK.  (But please don't make me!)

minor celebrities eavesdropping on hilarious people on first dates and then relaying that information to me:

This guy at the table next to me is a mixture of Dwight Schrute and Babycakes, AND he's on a first date. #basicallyamazing

"Do you want pepper?" "I will taste the meal and inform you at the appropriate time". Five seconds later he gets his pasta coated in it

And he's gone. His parting words: "I think she burned it. That way she wouldn't ever have to clean it up." #wordstoliveby
